Where to Eat and Drink

The closest pub is the Masons Arms, 2 minutes from the house. The do not serve food. Its a decent pub with an outside area. They prefer cash and card minimum spend is £10, but they do let you order multiple drinks and have them at a later time/ date. 

Tor Vale Tap (previously the Shrub Club) is a 10-15min walk along the river and the Millenium walkway - it's in a great location  - there is also a fancy cheese shop next to it. 

A Tavola Gastronomia Siciliana - is a brilliant Sicilian place  - book in advance. Its a 20min walk from the apartment.  

Sett Valley Cafe - is a 30min walk away, along the Sett Valley trail, which you can join 1 min from the apartment.  Great for breakfast and lunch, most of the seating is outdoor (covered) 

There are load of other pubs around the area - the Old Hall and Paper Mill in Chinley are firm favourites  - booking advised.

The High Street

There are a number of independent cafes - Door 34 is the best for food and cake, but the Clockwork Cafe is slightly closer and good for a take out coffee.

Millers Refillers is great for eco products, and freshly ground coffee for the cafetiere.

There is also a local gallery, book/ record shop, florists, cycle shop, a great veg market (Thurs-Sat), chip shop (check the opening hours, can close early, and doesn't open Mondays!), variety of takeaways, post office, Boots and a number of charity shops.

There is a larger Coop approx 15mins walk at the other end of Hyde Bank. 

Walks and Leisure

There are tonnes of walks including Kinder Scout, Lantern Pike - popular areas include Castleton, Edale (Jacobs ladder), Hathersage Lido etc. You are not far from Buxton Opera House either. 

There is a leisure centre 4mins walk from the flat, with swimming pool, gym and classes.

There is also a beautiful reformer pilates studio in the Torr Vale Mill - 15mins walk from the flat along the river and the Millennium walkway. Peak Reformer

For things to do - there is a vintage cinema a 10min drive away in Marple with really cheap tickets (£5!)  Regent Cinema

The Strines, Nightingale is a lovely pub with live music, more towards the folky/ acoustic spectrum , with a mix of local and touring artists. Its roughly a 1 hour walk from the flat (we haven't done the walk but there are details on their website) and Chris the owner is great.

Roman Lakes - there is a great walk from Mellor which takes you past the Lakes  - (check out Walks from the door, starting at the Oddfellows)  - the Lakes itself is a wedding venue, but they have a variety of open days. Driving down is an adventure we don't hugely advise , but walking is great !
